Introducing ‘MarkHack’; Nigeria’s First Media And Marketing Hackathon

With the tech space opening up globally, the future of marketing as we know it is about to be redefined, making room for innovation and future-forward ways of thinking with regards to customer experience, media consumption, content creation and much more. Hence the creation of MarkHack, Nigeria’s first hackathon at the intersection of media, marketing and tech.

MarkHack Nigeria’s first ever media and marketing hackathon and platform for technological transformation in media and marketing with a mission to provide media and tech solutions that can disrupt marketing in set focus areas which are Consumer Experience, Media Consumption, Consumer Interaction, Trade and Retail Engagement, Analytics and Metrics, Events Marketing, Media Monetization and Content Creation. MarkHack is more than a hackathon, it is also an initiative paving the way for the future of media and marketing with an array of networking and investment opportunities, to help startups grow.

We kicked off ‘MarkHack 1.0’ with the call to participation rounding up a community of innovators, marketing agencies, government stakeholders, corporate bodies, institutions and associations to come together to bring the MarkHack vision to life. We received over five hundred registrations from seventy-five locations in five countries across four continents. 

Dedicated to rewriting the narrative and positioning ourselves at the forefront of the transformation of the Nigerian marketing industry to a future-forward and innovation driven industry, MarkHack 1.0 hosted its launch event which had in attendance distinguished members of the marketing and media industry, leading industry professionals, innovators, entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts and thought leaders on marketing and tech. Also in attendance was the founder of CDP Institute, David Raab whose keynote speech titled, ‘Tech Disruption in Marketing: The Key To Redefining Consumer Recruitment And Interaction’ gives the perfect antecedent for the days to come.The Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Innovation and Technology, Tubosun Alake and the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on New Media and Public Relations also graced the launch event along with Kayode Oladapo, Dr Rotimi Olaniyan and many other industry experts present.

Following the successful launch event one hundred teams were formed from the registered participants who came together to brainstorm innovative ideas, concepts and prototypes in preparation for the pitch event. Twenty-two industry experts sat as jurors at the MarkHack 1.0 pitch event sifting through the pitches from twenty-six teams to select the top ten teams that will make it to the finals. 

The MarkHack 1.0 pitch session has now drawn to a close and our top ten finalists with the most innovative and groundbreaking ideas have been selected and assigned to mentors to help them fine tune, improve and make their ideas ready for pitch at the finals. At the closing ceremony, our final jurors Steve Babaeko, Iquo Ukoh, Joseph Agunbiade, Uwem Uwemakpan, Debola Williams, Tolulope Tomori Adedeji, Jide Sipe will decide which of the teams will get a chance at the twenty thousand dollar prize pool with funding from VC partners and Eko Innovation Center. 

All roads lead to the MarkHack 1.0 closing ceremony which will have in attendance diginitries, industry leaders, tech enthusiasts, innovators, investors, marketing directors, brand owners, managing directors to witness the emergence of the next big thing in marketing and technology.
